Human Dimensions in the Coastal ZonesIHDP/START Workshop Proceedings
28 scientists, representing 20 countries from all over Asia, Africa and Latin America, were invited to Bonn, Germany from September 10-19, 2000 for the second bi-annual IHDP/START International Human Dimensions Workshop for young developing country scientists.
The purpose of the Workshop was to bring together a group of outstanding young scholars from a wide range of disciplines and developing countries in order to discuss human dimensions research priorities. The topic of «Human Dimensions Issues in the Coastal Zones» included the following perspectives:
transformation processes and particularly urbanisation in the coastal zone, human security, institutional dimensions that play a role, for example, in coastal pollution and land use changes in coastal areas.
The topic was also important for developping a dialogue with scientists from the IGBP project on «Land-Ocean Interaction in the Coastal Zone», as well as with a number of other projects carried out at national and international levels.
Copies of the Workshop Proceedings No.3 can be obtained from the IHDP Secretariat, Walter-Flex Strasse 3, 53113 Bonn, Germany, E-mail: ihdp@uni-bonn.de free of charge.
