«An Inconvenient Truth» is a film about the challenge of climate change. The former vice president Al Gore attempts to give the public an understanding of the urgency of taking measures by combining his personal position with the science of climate change. Al Gore presents the up-to-date scientific knowledge concerning the anthropogenic induced global warming. Due to his intention of explaining the facts to a non-scientific audience there are some simplifications, however, these do not influence the basic conclusions. The presentation of the scientific background, e.g. about ice shield melting, shows that Gore has studied the subject intensively. Moreover, the melt of glaciers is illustrated by an impressive sample of pictures from all over the world. Gore does not confine himself to scientific findings, he also insists on the urgency of combating climate change. He stresses that emission reduction measures, as a surplus, also provide economic advantages. At the end of the movie he gives dozens of possibilities of personal contributions to mitigate climate change.
ProClim- and the öbu (Swiss Association for Environmentally Conscious Management) have organized a film event in Zurich on November 10. They invited research project leaders and decision makers from the economic sector. The event was fully booked with 250 participants. The event with cinema show, subsequent discussion with four experts and apero was much appreciated.
