IPCC 2007 Third Report on «Mitigation of Climate Change»

Following the release of the «Physical Science Basis» (Feb 07) and «Impacts, Adaptation and Vulnerability» (April 07) reports, the contribution of Working Group III of the IPCC focuses on mitigation of climate change through limiting or preventing greenhouse gas emissions and enhancing activities that remove them from the atmosphere.
The report analyses mitigation options for the main sectors in the near-term, addressing also cross-sectorial matters such as synergies, co-benefits and trade-offs. It also provides information on long-term mitigation strategies for various concentration stabilization levels.
In 2030 costs for greenhouse gas mitigation towards stabilization between 445 and 710 ppm CO2-eq are estimated at between a 3% decrease of global GDP and a small increase, compared to the baseline. However, regional costs may differ significantly from global averages.
