Impacts of climate change on water resources and surface waters in Switzerland CCHydro

2348

The closure of the project “Climate change and hydrology in Switzerland (CCHydro)” took place on the 8th of June in Bern. Aim of this project which was launched 2008 by the Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN) was to provide scientific hydrological facts for the formulation of a climate change adaptation strategy. Based on the newest climate scenarios for Switzerland the changes in the water cycle were simulated for the near (2035) and the far (2085) future. Over 200 people attended the conference where the results were presented by the authors of the subprojects and discussed within an experts discussion. Impacts on tourism, agriculture, river navigation and water management were highlighted and first adaptation approaches emerged. Finally, Ms. Doris Leuthard, Minister in the Swiss Government and director of the Federal Department of the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications, valued the results of the project as a solid basis for future political decisions concerning climate adaptation and energy policy. The results are summarised in a comprehensive synthesis report.
