COST becomes more efficient and has a new president

The last year was a period of reforms for COST. The Committee of Senior Officials (CSO) has given itself new and more efficient working methods and the new scientific secretariat of COST, the COST Office, is operative since 1 January 2004. It is located in Brussels. The co-operation with the European Science Foundation (ESF) as implementing agent for the COST Office, offers a high potential for synergies. The various instruments of the two organizations are used for the benefit of the scientists and the European Research and Innovation Area (ERA). CSO and COST can now actively preparing its future during the period of the 7th EU-Framework Programme.
Gösta Diehl (TEKES), who has held the CSO Presidency since 1998 is succeeded by the Italian Francesco Fedi, a longstanding expert on all levels of COST activities.
