The members of the German Advisory Council on Global Change (WBGU) have elected Renate Schubert as their new chair, and Hans-Joachim Schellnhuber as vice-chair. Renate Schubert is professor for economics at the Swiss Federal Institute for Technology and head of the Center for Economic Research at the University of Zurich. John Schellnhuber is research director of the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change in Norwich (UK) and director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research.
The German Advisory Council counts among the nine members two additional scientists from Switzerland: Nina Buchmann, professor for grassland science at the ETH Zürich and Astrid Epiney, professor for international, european and Swiss public law at the Université de Fribourg.
