Global Outlook for Ice and Snow

New UNEP report shows how hot it's getting

Ice, snow and climate change are closely linked. The Global Outlook for Ice and Snow investigates those linkages. It also presents information on the trends in ice and snow, the outlook for this century and beyond and the consequences to ecosystems and human well-being of these changes. It was written by more than 70 scientists from around the world and covers all parts of the cryosphere: snow, land ice, sea ice, river and lake ice, and frozen ground.

The future of hundreds of millions of people across the world will be affected by declines in snow cover, sea ice, glaciers, permafrost and lake ice says the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) in the Global Outlook for Ice and Snow. Impacts are likely to include significant changes in the availability of water supplies for drinking and agriculture, rising sea levels affecting low lying coasts and islands and an increase in hazards such as subsidence of currently frozen land.
